Announcing the New AMADEUS Amara

New luxury ship by AMADEUS River Cruises focuses on innovative, lightweight construction and fuel-efficient steering systems.

Burr Ridge, IL – AMADEUS River Cruises announces its next new build: Starting in 2025, the AMADEUS Amara will join the premium fleet of the river cruise operator. Thanks to an innovative lightweight construction and an exceptionally shallow draft in this category of ships, the vessel will remain reliably operational even in seasonally fluctuating water levels. Additionally, its reduced water resistance will help minimize fuel consumption. The sustainable design is further enhanced by an efficient hull shape, a fuel-saving autopilot, and solar panels on the sun deck, all of which contribute to environmentally friendly river cruising.

The new AMADEUS Amara aims to impress the travel market with its technical innovations and high environmental standards, while offering 164 guests even more space on the river. With decades of experience in developing modern river cruise ships, AMADEUS River Cruises has collaborated with an expert team to create numerous groundbreaking solutions for this new three-deck ship. Notably, the combination of lightweight construction and an innovative stabilization system allows for an impressively shallow draft of only 1.3m / 4.3ft in this category of ships. This reduced water resistance not only lowers fuel consumption but also ensures reliable operation, even in fluctuating water levels.

Another highlight is the state-of-the-art steering system, which automatically adjusts to currents, water levels, ship traffic, wind speeds, and even wave conditions. This maximizes propulsion efficiency, reduces emissions, and minimizes vibrations on board. Additionally, solar energy is harnessed for electricity generation, further supporting environmentally friendly operations.

“The Amara is not only a technical masterpiece but also a true gem for our guests,” says Marcus Leskovar, executive vice president of AMADEUS River Cruises. “The elegant interior design and an indoor pool at the stern will be among the new comfort highlights. Twelve spacious suites feature walk-out balconies and cozy reading nooks, while the 70 standard cabins mostly offer drop-down panoramic windows and luxurious bathrooms.”

The maiden voyage of the AMADEUS Amara is scheduled for early July 2025.
